SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio is filled with talented people who express their love for the Spurs. You see it daily, from the Spurs murals that dot the city to coffee spots that name their drinks after the players to custom sneaker artists who make magnificent shoes dedicated to the Silver and Black.
This creative spirit is alive and well among Spurs fans and even seeps into music.
Local musician Shemaiah A. Reed wanted to share his appreciation for Spurs' Victor Wembanyama and created a song titled "Wemby Song: The Crown."
He was inspired by Wemby's limitless potential while drawing from the dedicated Spurs fans who cheer for the team daily.
In this exclusive Q&A, Shemaiah talks to KENS 5 about the song, what inspired him, its creation process, and much more.
Jeff: What was the inspiration for your Wembanyama song? How did it come to be?
Shemaiah: The inspiration for "Wemby Song (The Crown)" came from the excitement surrounding the NBA's future, particularly the rise of a new star. We wanted to capture the energy and confidence of this new era in basketball.
My introduction to the innovative AI platform Lalals, which can transform lyrics into a fully produced track, sparked the song's creation. This revolutionary tool allowed us to experiment with new sounds and styles, leading to a collaboration that resulted in 14 songs in just over a week.
"Wemby Song" (co-written by Sweep The League's Rudy Campos Jr.) stood out as a tribute to the emerging talent of Wemby in the NBA. Our vision for STL (Sweep The League) Music, brought this high-energy track to life.
Jeff: How much did the culture of San Antonio Spurs fans impact the song?
Shemaiah: As creatives, we drew inspiration from the energy of the NBA community, including the dedication of Spurs fans.
Additionally, the local support from San Antonio businesses has been instrumental in our recent journey to create music outside of Rudy's live-stream show, "Sweep The League."
This support has allowed us to explore new creative avenues and bring our unique sound to the forefront.
Jeff: How long did it take to make? What was the process?
Shemaiah: Thanks to the AI technology we employed, creating "Wemby Song (The Crown)" was remarkably swift.
The song came together in a few days, from conceptualization to final production. We wrote the lyrics, fed them into the Lalals platform, and refined the output to create the track you hear today.
The entire process, from start to finish, took around 3-4 days. This rapid creative cycle allowed us to tap into the excitement of the moment and produce a song that captures the essence of a new era in basketball.
As a new duo collaboration, we're just starting, and this is only the beginning of our musical journey.
Jeff: What does the future hold for you?
Shemaiah: Sweep The League (STL) and its music arm, STL Music, are already generating buzz with an innovative approach to music creation, harnessing the power of AI to produce tracks like "Wemby Song (The Crown)".
As pioneers in this exciting new frontier, we're thrilled to see our unique sound resonating with listeners and industry insiders alike. By embracing cutting-edge technology and pushing the boundaries of creativity, we're demonstrating that AI is not only a tool, but a catalyst for artistic expression.
In addition to music production, we also utilize AI to enhance our visual content, streamlining the creation of engaging graphics and written production plans we use for Rudy's sports show and commercial scripts, ensuring we stay ahead of the curve in an ever-accelerating technological landscape.
Spurs fans can download the song on Apple Music and SoundCloud to show support for Shemaiah and his latest Wemby-inspired song.
