SAN ANTONIO — The excitement for the start of the San Antonio Spurs 2024-25 season is high.
Victor Wembanyama is entering his second season, while the arrival of Chris Paul and the NBA debuts of rookie Stephon Castle and Harrison Barnes mean the upcoming season will only further generate excitement among fans wanting to see the Silver & Black in the next stage of their rebuild.
However, fans must dig deep into their pockets if they buy tickets on the secondary market.
According to resale company Vivid Seats, average ticket prices for a Spurs game shot up by 151% compared to last season after the NBA schedule released. If you're looking to attend a game in-person this year, expect to pay an average of $256 per seat, compared to $102 last year.
The Vivid Seats' Spurs ticket page spiked 689% on the night the NBA schedule came out, emphasizing the high interest in tickets to catch Wemby and company.
As of Monday, price for a secondary-market ticket to the Spurs' home opener against Houston on Oct. 26 is $7,642 for a courtside ticket in Row 1 and $2,481 for a ticket in Charter Level 22, Row 9. Good luck getting first dibs via Ticketmaster; the closest seats still available to buy is Row 9 in Section 115, behind the basket on the left side of the court. That one was going for $243 before fees.
However, there are cheaper options to cheer the Spurs on in their season opener at the Frost Bank Center. For a balcony-level seat, the cheapest ticket is $45, with $53 options available.
It should be noted that these are secondary market prices, which are listed from ticket re-sellers. That means they'll fluctuate as the season nears and will likely reduce as games inch closer to tipoff.
Overall, this is more proof of the "Wemby effect." Fans want to see what he'll do in their arena or at the Frost Bank Center. He is a big draw, and these prices reflect that.
Other teams seeing big ticket price spikes for the regular season (average sold price) include the Memphis Grizzlies (+131%), Atlanta Hawks (+124%), Cleveland Cavaliers (+115%), and the Portland Trail Blazers (+114%).
