Spurs' Blake Wesley set to have his high school jersey retired

Wesley's South Bend Riley High School jersey will be retired in Feb.

SAN ANTONIO — Congratulations to San Antonio Spurs guard Blake Wesley, as he is set to have his South Bend Riley High School No. 0 jersey retired.

The ceremony will be held on Feb. 16 as Wesley will attend the special moment.

"It means a lot. Just thankful. I trusted God through the opportunity," he said.

Wesley graduated from the Indiana High School in 2021. He was named an Indiana All-Star and averaged 27.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.1 assists in his final year.

"My favorite high school memory was beating the No. 5 team in state," he said. "It's always on my mind."

Wesley would go on to play for Notre Dame before being selected by the Spurs in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft.

After spending the bulk of this rookie NBA season on the bench or developing with the G League's Austin Spurs, he is getting significant minutes in San Antonio backing up Tre Jones this season.

He's currently averaging career-highs in field goal percentage (53%) and two-point shooting (66%).

In addition, he's averaging 75% field goal shooting at the rim and has gone a perfect 7-7 in dunk attempts this season.

He got his second NBA career start against the Thunder Wednesday night, scoring 12 points and handing out six assists in 28 minutes, and was grateful for the opportunity.

“I felt great," he said. "Thank God for the opportunity. It started with my defense, and it led to my offense... so knowing when to go up, when to pass it, two-foot jump shot and find the guy."
