Spurs' Vassell appreciates fans who support the team away from San Antonio

The Spurs appreciate the fans who cheer them on on the road.

SAN ANTONIO — Whether at the friendly confines of the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio or on the road, one thing is certain: Spurs fans are always packing the arena seats to cheer on the Silver and Black.

Watch any Spurs road game and you will see fans wearing team gear and showing their team pride.

And the players notice.

"It's huge. Big shout out to the fans. they play a huge role whether we're home or away we need that type of energy," Devin Vassell said following the team's Dec. 29 road game in Portland.

Currently, Spurs road games draw an average of 18,309 good for 99% capacity.

Rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama likely has a big reason for that but pre-Wemby era, fans would certainly make their mark at away games.

Anything for the local team no matter where they may be playing.

"We appreciate them," said Vassell. "We need them."

The team can certainly look for any advantage in an otherwise down season record-wise.

With just five wins on the season, Vassell understands it may be trying for the fans to come out to support them.

Nevertheless, they do and he wants the fan base to know the team appreciates it all.

"Obviously, the season hasn't been easy. We just got to stay with it and we appreciate you guys," he said.
