Spurs are heading to France next season, Popovich confirms

The team is all but officially set to play at least one regular-season game in Victor Wembanyama's home next year.

SAN ANTONIO — When the San Antonio Spurs 2024-25 season schedule is released, you might notice a game set to be played in France.

Following the Spurs' Sunday win over the Nets in Austin, head coach Gregg Popovich confirmed the team will journey across the Atlantic for a regular-season game.

“We’re going there,” Popovich said when asked about possibility, all but making it official.

The NBA has yet to confirm any Spurs game (or games) in France, but league Commissioner Adam Silver teased it at last month's All Star Game festivities, saying Wembanyama "would very much like to see his team, the San Antonio Spurs, playing in Paris."

In addition, Tony Parker said in a January interview with the French channel Canal+ Sport that the Silver & Black will play not just one game in Victor Wembanyama's home country next year, but two.

“It’s very good news to have Spurs next year and for two games," he said.

If it ends up happening, it would mean an opportunity for Wembanyama to play regular-season NBA competition in front of his home crowd and some of his most passionate fans.

“I’m looking forward to it very much," he said about the possibility.

This wouldn't be the Spurs' first time playing in France. The team played in Paris for the Europe 2003 Games.
