Fire alarms blare at Dallas hotel where Spurs stay the night before season opener; ESPN's Smith blasts former Spur Kawhi Leonard

Did Mavs fans have anything to do with fire alarms going off during the Spurs' slumber? Is Stephen A. Smith right about former Kawhi Leonard?

SAN ANTONIO — If the San Antonio Spurs needed an extra cup of coffee ahead of their game against Dallas, you can forgive them.

The night before the Spurs were scheduled to open the 2024-2025 season on the road against the Mavericks, fire alarms went off at their hotel during their slumber.

Forward Jeremy Sochan captured it all, sharing the incident on his social media and looking at the direction of Mavs fans for causing the commotion.

"Damn, what Mavs fan did this before the first game of the season?" asked Sochan.

Fortunately, all was fine and there was no fire.

But it does make one wonder if Mavericks fans went the extra mile to disrupt San Antonio's sleep the night before tipoff...

STEPHEN A. SMITH BLASTS EX-SPUR KAWHI LEONARD

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith did not hold back about former Spur Kawhi Leonard, his ongoing injuries, and what he perceives as a flippant attitude about promoting the NBA and the Clippers.

Smith called out Leonard for wanting to play for Team USA this summer only for his injuries to keep him from playing as much as he can for the Clippers.

He also called out Leonard and his camp for blaming the Clippers for his persistent injuries, forcing the Clippers to trade for Paul George while giving up so much for him. The ESPN personality also claimed Leonard does nothing to promote the league and the Clippers.

"Even though you're injured, you're still available for interviews. You're still available to help promote the team. What does Kawhi Leonard do? He passes on the interview," Smith said. "He does absolutely, positively nothing to support or endorse the NBA brand, the Clippers, etcetera."

"I can make a legitimate argument that Kawhi Leonard is the worst superstar in the history of any sport. You can't have somebody like that, and it's beneficial, who is going to miss work half the time and does absolutely nothing to promote your product or brand," Smith went on. "He is the poster child for what not to be as a star in any sport."

Ask Spurs fans if they agree with Smith's opinion, and, given how unceremoniously Leonard left the Spurs in 2018, most will agree.
