SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs' Jeremy Sochan knows the value of an education and that message was his aim to the students at San Antonio's Mission Academy.
"It was super important," Sochan said. "I moved a lot so I experienced a lot of different educations. Some were good and some were bad. It's super important to keep growing your intelligence. Just the opportunity to learn is really important."
Sochan took part in the NBA Cares and State Farm community initiative at the Southside school Thursday afternoon.
Education was the message as he helped in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the school's library along with the STEM activities for the students.
And he did not just stand on the sidelines.
Sochan and the students took part in educational activities involving memory-strengthening games, and he even volunteered his 7-0 wingspan for the students to incorporate math with measuring tools.
And if that wasn't enough to bring smiles to the students, Sochan also took part in a basketball clinic giving the kids a chance to go up against an NBA player.
Once again, the Spurs are putting the San Antonio community first this holiday season and Sochan is appreciative of the opportunity to take part.
"It means the most," he said. "I think we play basketball but I think this is bigger than that. being in an organization like the Spurs, it just shows how much that stuff means to us."
The Silver and Black have been putting San Antonio families first throughout the holiday season.
From a Christmas tree giveaway for Southside families to new beds and Nike gear for the Davis Middle School Girl's Basketball team, it is truly a season of giving from the local NBA team.
"Probably just being with family," Sochan said about his favorite Christmas memories. "Just being able to be with them and just spend time with them. That's the memory I have."
