Spurs release Marcus Morris Sr., paving way for him to join playoff contender

San Antonio has agreed to a buyout with the veteran NBA forward.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs and Marcus Morris Sr. have parted ways for the second time.

According to a report, the Spurs have agreed to a contract buyout with the NBA forward ahead of the March 1 deadline for him to join a playoff-contending team.

Morris Sr. was part of the Spurs' trade with the Pacers for Doug McDermott. He did not suit up for the Spurs following the deal.

In 2019, Morris Sr. had verbally agreed to join the Spurs, and the team moved Davis Bertans to Indiana to make cap space to add him to the roster. However, he backed out of the commitment to join the Knicks.
