Reports: Former Spurs Power Forward Rudy Gay has announced his retirement

Rudy Gay played for the Spurs from 2017-2021 and on Tuesday, ESPN Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania announced that after 17 seasons, Gay is retiring.

Spurs forward Rudy Gay, who was selected by Houston with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft, signed with San Antonio as a free agent in July 2017.

SAN ANTONIO — After 17 seasons in the NBA, four with the San Antonio Spurs, Rudy Gay has announced his retirement.

Rudy Gay started his career in Memphis in after being the No. 8 overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. 

During his time in San Antonio, Gay averaged 9 points and 5 rebounds per game, filling the veteran roll needed by the Spurs at the time.

On Tuesday, Oct. 29, NBA Senior Insider Shams Charania announced the retirement via a post on X.

After being drafted out of UConn, Gay played in 1,120 games for five different teams in his 17-year career.
