SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs' Jeremy Sochan and Devin Vassell recently gave updates on their return to the court on social media.
SOCHAN
Sochan posted on X that he is fine after undergoing surgery for a broken left thumb.
He posted a photo of his hand wrapped up and then took a shot at the Spurs' in-state rival, the Houston Rockets.
"Man’s good! Spurs are playing, let’s go! Still **** Houston," he posted.
Sochan suffered a left thumb fracture in the team's recent match against the Clippers. The team said it would provide updates as soon as they are available.
A friend of Locked On Spurs, Dr. Ryan McCorkle, opines that this type of injury, coupled with surgery, might push Sochan away from the court for up to six weeks.
However, with the Spurs putting players' health first, it would not be surprising if the team kept him out longer.
Sochan was having a breakout year, averaging 15.4 points per game, including 7.7 rebounds and 3.0 rebounds.
Before the injury, he had a 109.0 defensive rating, 43 steals, and 23 blocks, and his ability to defend multiple positions was key in the Spurs' hot defensive start to the season.
The Spurs forward is just days from surgery, so it will be a while before he's back in action.
VASSELL
Vassell has yet to return to the court this regular season (foot), but all signs indicate his imminent return.
He recently worked out with the Austin Spurs in San Antonio as part of his rehab and shared news of his return on social media.
According to him, he is very close to returning to the NBA stage.
He's missed the start of the season as he continues to recover from offseason surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right foot.
