REPORT: Spurs trade McDermott to Pacers for Morris, second-round draft pick

McDermott played three seasons in San Antonio following a trade with Indiana in 2021.

SAN ANTONIO — According to a report via The Athletic, the San Antonio Spurs have traded 32-year-old forward Doug McDermott to the Indiana Pacers for Marcus Morris, cash considerations and a second-round draft pick. A few hours later, the Spurs all but confirmed the news on social media.

It's also being reported that the Spurs are expected to buy out Morris.

McDermott was expected to be moved ahead of the trade deadline. He returns to the Pacers after playing there from 2018-21. He played three seasons in San Antonio after a trade with Indiana in 2021, averaging 6.0 points and 1.2 assists through 46 games played this season. He was shooting 43% from beyond the arc while providing the young Spurs with a veteran presence that will be missed on and off the court.

Overall, the roster move makes sense for both sides, allowing McDermott to go to a contending team while the Spurs acquire another draft asset to help in their ongoing rebuild.

It won't be long until Spurs fans see McDermott again; Indiana visits San Antonio for a matchup on March 3.
