Spurs' Wembanyama shares his appreciation for San Antonio fans

"I can feel the passion in this city," said Wembanyama.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio may be a big city, but its small-town feel is unique and what makes it special for Victor Wembanyama.

The San Antonio Spurs center shared his appreciation for the fanbase in an interview with France's Sept a Huit.

During the chat, he is also relieved the fans are not aggressive with him or invasive about his life.

“I can feel the passion in this city. But there’s nothing aggressive or invasive about it. It’s not the same in other places, like New York”.

San Antonio fans have a reputation for being highly respectful and courteous toward Spurs players, whether Wembanyama or any other member of the team, past and present.

Many will leave the players alone or kindly ask for an autograph or photo.

The good news is that the players are more often than not going to give fans a moment of the time, even on their off days. Just as Wemby did recently when he was spotted at an H-E-B grocery store.

Especially coach Gregg Popovich, who always takes the time to snap photos with fans.

The fan base's passion for the Spurs is evident throughout the city, with murals of Wemby and other team greats.
