Suns 131, Spurs 106: What the teams said after the game

"They did the best they could," said Gregg Popovich postgame versus the Suns.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs lost at home to the Phoenix Suns, 131-106.

Victor Wembanyama scored 13 points and five rebounds. Devin Vassell scored two points in the loss, and Keldon Johnson scored 14. Jeremy Sochan chipped in with seven points and three rebounds, and Tre Jones had 10 points and five assists.

The Spurs are 15-56 on the season and will next host the Phoenix Suns on Monday night in San Antonio.

Here's a sample of what the teams said after the game.

SPURS

Gregg Popovich:

“They did the best they could. I thought we had a little more contact and physicality in the second half, but you're not going to stop [Devin Booker] and [Kevin Durant] from doing what they're doing, and [Bradley Beal] is healthy now. That's a pretty tough trio. Our guys did everything they could, and you move on.”

Blake Wesley:

“They (Suns) have three All-Stars, three Hall-of-Famers, so they're hard to guard, hard to play. But it's a good challenge for us. We get to play them on Monday, too. So, we’ll accept the challenge … I like playing them, it makes me better.”

Johnson:

“We just have to take care of the ball better as a team. We’re capable of doing that and we showed that this year. We just need to build consistency.”

SUNS

Frank Vogel:

“It’s great. That’s what you want them all to look like when you get an early lead. To keep your foot on the gas, play the third quarter the way we did, go for a knockout punch, which we did and just play a really solid 48 minutes”.

Devin Booker:

“it's just everybody on the team. Defense, we found a rhythm and that directly translates on the offensive side of the ball. I want to get in a place, and we have a lot to work on, but I want to take steps in the right direction.”
