Team France, Wembanyama upset Canada in Olympic quarterfinals

France punched its ticket to the Olympics semifinals. They're set to face a familiar foe.

SAN ANTONIO — Team France punched its ticket to the 2024 Olympics basketball semifinals after beating Team Canada wire-to-wire, 82-73, pulling off the upset over a team featuring Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks.

And the host country's team managed to do so without a monstrous scoring effort from San Antonio Spur Victor Wembanyama, who nonetheless submitted a productive outing tallying seven points, 12 rebounds, five assists, one block and three steals. Guerschon Yabusele scored 22 points to lead France, with Isaia Cordinier's 20-point outing shoring up the offensive output.

Wembanyama and France will look for revenge when they play Germany on Thursday. In the group stage, France lost to Germany 85-71.

PATTY MILLS, TEAM AUSTRALIA FALL SHORT VS. SERBIA

Ex-Spurs guard Patty Mills and Team Australia lost an overtime heartbreaker to Team Serbia, 95-90. Australia had a 24-point lead only to see it evaporate.

Mills hit a clutch shot to force overtime, but it was not enough for Australia. He finished with 26 points.

“Through the happy tears and the sad tears, it’s been an incredible journey," Mills said.
