SAN ANTONIO — If it is up to top high school prospect AJ Dybantsa, he will wear a San Antonio Spurs jersey if and when he leaps into the NBA.
After committing to play at BYU, he was asked if there was a system he'd like to play for in his NBA future while on ESPN's First Take.
He immediately pointed to the Spurs (and Magic) and pondered how his pairing with Victor Wembanyama would work in San Antonio.
Dybantsa is a projected top player in the NBA Draft 2026. At 6-foot-9, 210 pounds, he has all the skills to become an All-Star.
However, the Spurs would have to fall in the top three draft slots or trade up to get him if they fall short.
SPURS RANK IN TOP 10 NBA FRONT OFFICES
The Athletic recently shared a poll on the top NBA front offices, and the Spurs landed at the No. 10 spot.
The team finished with 14 points, including two third-place votes and one fourth-place vote, and appeared on four ballots.
The Spurs were the class of the NBA for nearly two decades, an almost unbelievable reign. The key drivers of that period are still there. Buford is now the CEO and Popovich remains president of basketball ops. Wright took over as general manager in 2019.
It will be interesting to see how GM Brian Wright and the franchise navigate the rebuild. Netting Wembanyama was huge, Stephon Castle has been a surprise, and with a bevy of draft picks and cap flexibility, the front office has the team primed to return to the NBA mountaintop.
