SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs fans might want to pick up a 2024 Topps Baseball Series 2 box to see if they can pull a Victor Wembanyama baseball card.
Yes, you read that right, a Wemby baseball card!
Before Wembanyama made it into the NBA, his first pro-American sports jersey was a No. 5 New York Yankees jersey, which he wore when he threw out the Yankees' first pitch ahead of the 2023 NBA Draft at Yankee Stadium on June 20, 2023.
To commemorate Wemby's MLB moment, Topps has released a baseball card featuring his moment in its "First Pitch" card set.
Topps announced it has returned the "First Pitch" card after a couple of years due to popular demand, and Wemby's Yankee card is in the set.
The card features him in a Yankees jersey and sunglasses, tossing a baseball card complete with the date of his Yankees pitch.
It is also autographed by the Spurs center with a star next to a "1," which might reflect his San Antonio jersey number.
Wembanyama cards are hit items in the collecting world.
Recently, an autographed 1-of-1 Topps Dynasty Wembanyama card was pulled during a box break. It featured his drawings of a UFO, an alien, a mustachioed Wemby, a sweat bead on his head, and his autograph.
It also has a piece of the NY Yankees jersey he wore this past summer ahead of the 2023 NBA Draft.
Other cards in the "First Pitch" set are George W. Bush, Mallory Swanson, Myke Towers, and Daddy Yankee.
The 2024 Topps Baseball Series 2 is now available at www.topps.com, retail, and hobby shops.
The price point is $84.99 for the hobby box.
The 350-card set continues the flagship, incorporating the same stylistic elements as Topps Series 1: a neon border in team color, a black smoke gradient, and team names (in the upper right corner).
What say you, Spurs fans? Will you be going out to get a box? I hope you get the new Wemby baseball card. Let us know on X at KENS 5 and JeffGSpursKENS5.
