Victor Wembanyama says he's added about 11 pounds to his frame since joining the Spurs

This is what opposing defenders don't want to deal with next season: A stronger Wemby.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama can do it all on the court.

Defensively, he is a terror for the opposition, and offensively, he can score at the rim or from the three-point line.

In addition to his height and wingspan, he seems nearly unstoppable.

However, if there is one thing that opposing defenders try to take advantage of, it's his lack of weight.

Entering the NBA, he was listed at 209 pounds in his rookie season, and heavier players used their size advantage on him.

Alperen Sengun, Nikola Jokic, Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid all threw their weight at Victor to get the best of him during games.

But that will likely change quickly because, according to the 2023-24 NBA Rookie of the Year, he's gotten heavier since joining San Antonio.

In an interview with the French site Brut, Wemby says he's added about 11 pounds (4-5 kilos) to his frame.

"10 kilos? No. Maybe about four to five kilos," he said.

Since entering the league, Wemby has taken measured steps to avoid adding too much size to his 7-4 frame.

He practices yoga to remain flexible and has long warm-ups. pregame and during games.

In addition, adding bulk is never on his radar. He wants to get stronger.

"I don't need to bulk up; I need to get stronger," he said on 2023 NBA Draft night.

He will enter year two at about 220 pounds, give or take. That should help him handle defenses better and flip the script on players looking to bully him in the paint.

He is already a handful, but this is precisely what opposing defenders don't want to deal with next season: A stronger Wemby.
