Wembanyama, France win silver medal after falling short vs. Team USA

Wembanyama took home the silver medal, was named to the Olympic basketball All-Star Five and was named a rising star.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama and Team France could not topple Team USA in the gold medal game, losing 98-87.

Wemby did all he could, recording a game-high 26 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Guerschon Yabusele finished with 20 points for France.

Team USA's Stephen Curry finished with 24 points, including a three-point barrage late in the game to seal the gold medal for the United States. LeBron James had 14 points, ten assists, and six rebounds.

After the final buzzer sounded, Wembanyama and his French teammates were in tears, coming up short in front of the home country crowd.

Team USA's win marked the team’s fifth consecutive gold medal.

As for France, the team is poised to be formidable in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Wembanyama won silver and was named to the Olympic All-Star Five team along with Nikola Jokic, Curry, James, and Dennis Schroder.

He was also named a rising star following his performance throughout the Olympic basketball tournament.
