'I don’t regret anything' | UTSA quarterback Frank Harris is retiring from football

The longtime Roadrunner said that after 10 surgeries, his body has "been through a lot."

SAN ANTONIO — After a long and productive college career that helped elevate UTSA to new heights as a young program, quarterback Frank Harris announced on social media that his days playing football are over.

Harris, 24, has been under center for the Roadrunners since 2019, and in 2022 was named MVP of Conference USA. UTSA secured the program's first-ever bowl win in its 11-year history at last month's Frisco Bowl, but the oft-injured ironman Harris was held out of the game with a shoulder injury.

"The game of football has taught me so much, It has changed my life FOREVER and I’ll forever be thankful for that," Harris said Tuesday night in a series of posts on X. "With that being said I don’t know how life would be without it, but after having 10 surgeries playing this sport my body has been through a lot and I don’t regret anything, for it has made me the man I am today.

"Although this is hard for me, I think it’s best that I move on from football and move onto the next chapter of my life."

Harris's Instagram announcement was accompanied with photos of him as a young athlete in various stages of his football life.

The former Clemens Buffalo grew up in Converse and holds dozens of school records for the Roadrunners. He's responsible for 14,007 yards of offense and 120 total touchdowns in his career, and led UTSA to back-to-back CUSA titles in 2021 and 2022.

"I pray I’m not remembered for breaking records or winning games but remembered as a God fearing humble person who LOVES his city and being a great role model for the younger kids," Harris said on X. "I’m excited to see what God has in store for me!"
