UTSA learns their bowl game fate

Head coach Jeff Traylor and senior quarterback Frank Harris will lead the team as they chase their first ever bowl win.

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA Roadrunners are heading to their fourth bowl game in a row, and they're staying in the Lone Star State.

After finishing their first season in the American Athletic Conference with an 8-4 record overall, UTSA's head coach Jeff Traylor and senior quarterback Frank Harris will lead the team to Frisco where they'll take on the Marshall Thundering Herd in the Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl. The game will be broadcast on ESPN on Tuesday, December 19, and is set to kick off at 8 p.m. at Toyota Stadium.

Tickets are available here.

This will be the fifth bowl game in the brief history of UTSA football, and the young program is still looking for their first bowl win. Frank Harris has an opportunity to deliver that win in his final game after a career where he's accounted for over 14,000 total yards and 120 total touchdowns.

It will also be an opportunity for Traylor to finish off the season with a win amid rumors he might move on to other teams in the state. There were rumblings that the coach was being considered for the openings at both Houston and Texas A&M, but he's staying put for now at least. This is his fourth year at the helm, and he's led the Roadrunners to a bowl game in each season.

Marshall went 6-6 this season.

“We are excited to have two outstanding teams participate in the 2023 Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl, the UTSA Roadrunners and the Marshall Thundering Herd,” said Sean Johnson, Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl Executive Director. “We are looking forward to hosting this great matchup and welcoming the teams and their passionate fan bases to Frisco, Texas for an exciting week of bowl events and a fantastic game at Toyota Stadium.”
