GREENVILLE, N.C. — UTSA didn't have the AAC opener they wanted as they fell to East Carolina 30-20 on Saturday.
The Roadrunners jumped out to an early 13-3 lead with the help of two field goals and a touchdown catch hauled in by Oscar Cardenas on 3rd-and-goal conversion late in the first quarter.
After that, the Pirates went on to score 24 unanswered points before UTSA finally answered with a big 66-yard touchdown from Brandon High Jr. to cut the deficit down to seven with 10:38 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Roadrunners had the ball late with a chance to tie the game but turned it over, which led to a nail-in-the-coffin field goal by the Pirates to put the game out of reach.
UTSA has a bye week before returning to conference play against Rice on Saturday, Oct.12
