Dak Prescott says 'people are reaching' over walking boot concerns

Prescott addressed questions about the walking boot while at a youth football camp in Southlake on Tuesday morning.

SOUTHLAKE, Texas — Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said his recent sighting in a walking boot while on vacation was "absolutely nothing" and that he's not injured.

Prescott addressed questions about the walking boot while at a youth football camp in Southlake on Tuesday morning.

A photo of Prescott walking with the boot on his right foot surfaced last week while the quarterback vacationed with his girlfriend in Cabo San Lucas. Prescott told reporters Tuesday that he was wearing the boot out of precaution after his surgically repaired ankle got sore during training.

"I'm great," Prescott said. "Honestly, I'm getting older. It's the same ankle that I snapped [in 2020], and had a nasty surgery on four years ago. Couple hard days of training and you get a little sore and you're going on a fishing trip and you want to protect it and make sure things don't get worse."

Prescott reiterated that "people are reaching, trying to make things that they aren't."

Prescott's walking boot photo naturally set Cowboys fans abuzz on social media with speculation on the quarterback's status. But all appears fine, for now.

"Sorry it caused such a whirlwind," Prescott said.

Prescott had less clarity on his contract status with the Cowboys, heading into the final year of his four-year deal.

The Dallas quarterback said there's been "conversations back and forth" between him and the Cowboys. For the most part, he said, he's letting his agent handle those discussions.

"Day one of training camp, my mind flips to helping my team and doing everything I can within the organization and on the football field to make sure I'm my best and everyone around me is their best," Prescott said.
