DENVER — Colorado Avalanche legend Joe Sakic is the subject of a new original documentary coming to ESPN+ and Amazon Prime.
Prime Video and the NHL released the trailer for the new documentary "Saving Sakic."
"Saving Sakic" premieres on Tuesday, April 16, for Prime members in Canada and Wednesday, April 17, for ESPN+ subscribers in the United States.
The NHL said the documentary follows the high-stakes saga that ensued when Avalanche Chairman and CEO Charlie Lyons was blindsided by an attempt to sign away Sakic, the captain of his team. Lyons had seven days to raise $15 million to save his star.
Sakic captured two Stanley Cups with the Avalanche, won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP, and the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the playoffs. Sakic was voted one of the 100 Greatest Players in League history in 2017.
