BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil -- The U.S. women's Olympic soccer team held off a strong French team to win 1-0 as Hope Solo played in her 200th game as a goalkeeper at Mineirao Stadium Saturday.
Solo is the first goalkeeper to play in 200 international games.
Carli Lloyd tapped in the game's only goal midway through the second half. She was able to get it past France's goalkeeper after the first shot by Tobin Heath deflected off the post.
The United States is 2-0-0 now in Group G of the Olympics soccer tournament in Rio de Janeiro. They have six points and a goal-differential of plus three.
The United States struggled to get their offense to click early in the game only getting three shots on goal off in the first half.
In the 40th minute, Solo made a key save against a shot from Marie-Laure Delie. That kept the game scoreless as the teams went into the half. She had several more saves late in the game by a charging France team, but was able to save all of them.
Fans in Brazil continue to boo and jeer Solo any time she touches the ball. After the team's victory against New Zealand, Solo said she was glad the fans were having fun. The boos are in response to Solo's public preparation against the Ziki virus on social media.
The U.S. women's team is now 17-2-1 all time against France.
They will play again Tuesday against Columbia.
