San Antonio celebrates MacArthur grad who helped the Rangers win World Series

The school district where he played proudly posted on social media about the win and congratulated Josh and his family.

SAN ANTONIO — A hometown baseball player was part of the winning team as the Texas Rangers won their very first World Series in the team's 62-year history.

Josh Jung, who attended MacArthur High School in San Antonio, was drafted by Texas in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He also played baseball at Texas Tech University. Josh was seen front and center when the Rangers were presented their trophy after their 5-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 5 of the World Series.

Jung helped this year's Texas team fight through with a "next man up" mentality during the regular season and playoff, something Jung reflected on when he spoke of the win.

"Resiliency was the theme of our team all season. Anytime anyone went down, we picked them up. And we put that on display these last two games," Jung told reporters after Wednesday's victory.

Dozens of people commented on the post, also wishing Josh and his family congratulations.

"Congratulations  So happy for the organization and especially for Josh living that moment .. It’s such a big win for Mrs. Jung and her family," one commenter wrote.

"Go Rangers!! Way to represent San Antonio Josh Jung!" said another poster.

Meanwhile, the team is still on a high from the historic win. It's the first piece of hardware in the team's 62-year history -- a championship drought that had pre-dated the team's move to Arlington in 1972 and went all the way back to its introduction into the league as the expansion Washington Senators in 1961.
