SAN ANTONIO — Week 6 of Texas high school football is in the books, and here's Vinnie Vinzetta's picks for the best San Antonio-area programs at this point in the season.

No. 5: Southwest Dragons (5-0)

Ranked fifth last week.

I saw the Dragons in person last week and they showed some razzle-dazzle when they beat rival Southside, 28-0. The Dragons are 5-0, and I love the brand new press box at SWISD. Looks awesome!

No. 4: Alamo Heights Mules (6-0)

Ranked fourth last week.

The Mules continue to mean business. They handled Harlandale on Friday, 55-9, to improve to improve on their undefeated start to the season.

They welcome Victoria West this week. If you've not seen the two-headed running back monster they have in Michael Terry and D.K. Garza, you need to check them out.

No. 3: Steele Knights (5-1)

Ranked third last week.

Returning to the No. 3 spot is the Steele Knights. They survived the offensive showdown of the season against East Central last week, winning 64-59.

They are 5-1 and visit rival Judson this week. That game was all kinds of fun if you love the offensive side of the ball. The Hornets, by the way, are much improved, too; at 4-2, they're hunting for a playoff berth.

No. 2: Pieper Warriors (5-0)

Ranked second last week.

The Warriors had the week to rest on their bye, so right at No. 2 they remain. Pieper is 5-0  and travels to face the Seguin Matadors this week.

They are sitting on quite the football goldmine off Highway 281 in Comal ISD just north of San Antonio. They are gonna be good every season moving forward, given their geographic position and growth in that part of the Texas Hill Country.

No. 1: Brennan Bears (4-1)

Ranked first last week.

And the top spot, again, goes to the Brennan Bears. They beat O’Connor last Thursday, 45-0, and get the Marshall Rams on Saturday.

The Bears' season-opening loss to Reagan apparently woke them up from preseason hibernation. They have been dominant ever since! They certainly look like the most dominant team by far in Northside ISD.

Those are my Top 5! What are yours? Be sure to like, share and comment. And we’re looking forward to Week 7!
