The WNBA's San Antonio Stars have announced that they have been sold and that they're moving to Las Vegas.
The Stars announced the move on Thursday in a letter to their fans on Twitter:
The post reads:
Dear Stars Family,
We wanted to share the following information regarding our WNBA San Antonio Stars.
The WNBA and Spurs Sports & Entertainment have been in negotiations with a buyer to purchase and relocate the San Antonio Stars. As you may know, the Utah Starzz were one oft he eight original WNBA teams when the league launched in the summer of 1997. After six seasons in Salt Lake City the franchise relocated to San Antonio in December 2002 and have since played in San Antonio.
On behalf of Spurs Sports & Entertainment ownership, management, and staff, we are all very thankful to the wonderful Stars fans, season ticket members and corporate partners who have supported the team over the last 15 years. This was an extremely difficult decision as all of us at SS&E are proud of what the Stars have accomplished on the court and in the San Antonio community. The Stars players, coaches and front office staff have always been a focused, driven and talented group of professionals. We extend our deepest gratitude for everyone's many seasons of dedication, passion and hard work.
We will continue to update with further information as available and we thank you again for your loyal support of the San Antonio Stars and the WNBA.
