SAN ANTONIO — The Port San Antonio Board of Directors Thursday approved the construction of a $60 million innovation center on the campus.
Port San Antonio, formerly known as Kelly Air Force Base, will soon be home to state of the art center that will include a massive technology arena, meeting and classroom spaces and a research lab. The technology arena can be configured for different uses including esports competitions, concerts, product launches and large training programs. The center will also be home to the San Antonio Museum Science and Technology.
The new building will span 130,000 square feet. It will be funded through a commercial loan, which the Port will repay through entertainment events, conferences, and other revenue streams.
This is one of the many transformations going on at Port SA. The innovation center comes as the port is creating at new tech training center to prepare people for open jobs in the STEM field.
