SAN ANTONIO — SpaceX and T-Mobile are teaming up for a new technology that could prove to be revolutionary.
Elon Musk returned to the south Texas community of Brownsville to tout an initiative striving to eradicate half a million square miles of dead zones, while also claiming it has the potential to save lives.
T-Mobile plans on integrating with Starlink Satellites, which will launch in 2023, and inviting other companies to join the technology. While the service is expected to be limited to text messaging to start, they say users won't have to buy a new phone, adding it's not unlike putting a cell tower in the sky—high enough where natural disasters won't impact their effectiveness.
T-Mobile and SpaceX hope to begin beta-testing the out-of-this-world service by the end of 2023.
