Driver hospitalized in critical condition after being rescued from car stuck under 18-wheeler on I-35

Officials said a small car ran into the back of an 18-wheeler, causing half of the car to get trapped underneath.

SAN ANTONIO — A driver has been hospitalized in critical condition after officials say a small car ran into an 18-wheeler on I-35 south, causing half of it to get stuck underneath it.

Around 5:15 p.m. Saturday, several agencies responded to a crash on I-35 South at 1604 after receiving reports of a serious crash.

Officials said a small car ran into the back of an 18-wheeler, causing half of the car to get trapped underneath. Fire personnel were able to cut the driver out of the car before calling in an airlift to transport the driver to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities had to shut down parts of the road so the airlift could land and depart from the scene and northbound traffic has been rerouted to the access road.

As of 6:45 p.m., crews were still on the scene.
