SEGUIN, Texas — A massive mountain of fiery trash littered the streets of downtown Seguin on Friday.
According to Seguin PD, a garbage truck driver noticed smoke coming from the back of the truck in the area of Donegan and South Austin Street around 11:30 a.m.
Fernando Flores Jr. who was relaxing outside one of the storefronts, noticed the smoke and flames. He wasted no time chasing after the driver to get his attention.
“I kept hollering at him, you got fire, you got fire," Flores said. “Finally got in front of him right there. Told him dump it, you’re going to burn up the whole truck.”
For everyone's safety, the truck's materials were emptied on the roadway. The fire department was able to quickly extinguish the flaming pile of trash.
Adriaan Mangum, who works as a realtor near the scene, captured video of the chaos. An employee at Southern Good, also provided some footage.
“Trash in the middle of the street, that’s the first time I’ve seen that," Mangum said. “Yeah, saw a tire rolling out of it and then just a lot of cardboard trash, didn’t smell very good, a lot of smoke.”
Cleanup crews removed the trash and washed the streets before roads opened back up. Authorities are unaware of what sparked the fire.
“Glad everybody seemed to be okay. I didn’t see anybody get hurt or anything like that," Mangum said.
