CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Labor Day weekend is right around the corner and a survey conducted by AAA Texas shows that 30 percent of Americans will be hitting the road.
The good news is drivers will feel less pain at the pump.
“We are seeing prices continue to drop across the state,” said Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas.
Armbruster adds that the prices may be dropping, but they’re doing so at a much slower rate than they were a few weeks ago.
If you do plan on taking a road trip for Labor Day weekend, Armbruster says to be patient, plan ahead, and make sure your car is ready to go.
"Not maintaining your vehicle doesn't just put you at more of a risk for roadside breakdown, it also takes away from your fuel efficiency,” said Armbruster.
“It's really important especially if you're going on a big road trip making sure your vehicle is properly maintained, making sure your tires are in good shape.”
Armbruster also encourages drivers to use cruise control when they can. This will help maximize fuel efficiency especially when taking a long trip.
If you're heading out of the Lone Star State, you can always visit AAA Texas’s website where it shows the average gas prices across the country.
There are several factors that could impact what drivers pay soon, for example the price of crude oil.
“Crude oil has fluctuated a little bit over the last few days just on news that OPEC may cut production after saying they would increase production," said Armbruster.
With hurricane season underway, Armbruster says it’s important to keep in mind that hurricanes can cause a disruption in oil and gas operations.
Another thing that could continue impacting prices is Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“It can have unforeseen impact on the global crude market,” said Armbruster.
