Eastbound Loop 1604 to close on this stretch tonight

It's the latest closure as part of the massive, $418 million project to give the highway a facelift on the north side.

SAN ANTONIO — Loop 1604 construction is once again rearing its orange-cone head to start the week, and commuters expected to drive through the north side Monday night should take caution.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) says eastbound lanes of the highway will be closed from the Blanco Road exit to the Loop 1604/Stone Oak Parkway entrance ramp, a distance of about two and a half miles, from 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday (weather permitting). Eastbound commuters will be diverted onto the eastbound frontage road before re-entering on the Stone Oak entrance ramp just before U.S. 281.

Crews will be pouring concrete as part of Segment 3 of the multi-year, $418 million project to expand Loop 1604 to 10 lanes of traffic along the north side. The massive construction effort is expected to be done by 2027, and officials have said it will reduce traffic wait time by up to 75%.
