Garbage truck driver hospitalized after vehicle ends up in ravine along Highway 281

The driver, a Solid Waste Management employee for the city, is in stable condition as police continue to investigate.

SAN ANTONIO — A major rollover accident on the city's north side Thursday caused backup and landed a city worker in the hospital, officials said.

Emergency crews responded to the accident along U.S. Highway 281 and Wurzbach Parkway near Maltsberger Lane around 2 p.m. Transportation officials said the entrance from Wurzbach onto 281 was briefly closed as crews responded.

According to San Antonio police, a garbage truck driver tried to make a turn on Wurzbach Parkway but somehow rolled off of the bridge and landed in a ravine. City officials said he was hospitalized but is in stable condition.

Witnesses at the scene said the garbage truck was traveling at a high rate of speed.
