SAN ANTONIO — A man died after his pickup truck rear-ended a box truck on Loop 410 on Friday afternoon.

According to San Antonio police officials, traffic was backing up on the westbound lanes of Loop 410 near Ray Ellison Drive around 1:11 p.m.

A box commercial truck was slowing down due to the heavy traffic, but police say an approaching black pickup truck didn't have enough time to stop and slammed into the box truck.

The 33-year-old driver of the black truck was pronounced dead at the scene; there was nobody else in that vehicle. Fire crews worked for hours, cutting pieces of the pickup truck trying to retrieve the man's body.

The box truck driver didn't sustain any injuries.

Police say both directions of the roadway will be closed for a few hours as authorities investigate the crash.

This is a developing situation, and KENS 5 will update this article as we learn more.
