San Antonio Airport prepares for influx of travelers for Independence Day

As the travel season heats up airport officials are kicking off a travel campaign that shares travel tips.

SAN ANTONIO — During this year's fourth of July holiday the San Antonio International Airport is expecting nearly 300,000 passengers flying in and out of the airport beginning Saturday, June 29 through Sunday, July 7th.

Last month nearly one million passengers flew in and out of the airport— which is a 5% increase from May of 2023.

In 2023 the airport recorded it’s busiest year ever with 10.7 million passengers flying through the airport’s two terminals.

As the travel season heats up airport officials are kicking off a travel campaign that shares travel tips and sends the message to travelers that “it takes two." Officials want passengers to focus on arriving at least 2 hours prior to boarding time and not the departure time.

Adding boarding times do vary by airline and travelers can find their flight’s boarding times on their boarding pass. When it comes to international flights they said to arrive at least 3 hours before boarding time

For those hitting the roadways this holiday, AAA is reporting national average gas prices are at $3.50 a gallon—while in Texas drivers are paying an average of $3.10 a gallon.

Despite that Texas average Bexar County is above that at 3.14 a gallon.

AAA officials said the summer has gotten off to a slow start with low gas demand but with a forecast of 60 million travelers expected to hit the road this fourth of July gas prices could increase over the next 10 days.
