SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio flyers anxious about long lines might be able to breathe easier as summer travel gets underway, thanks to a new report ranking average wait times at the city's airport as the second-shortest in the country.
That's a distinct jump from Bounce's 2022 ranking which cited wait times at San Antonio International as the eighth-shortest among U.S. facilities. The newly released 2023 report acknowledges the concession Alamo City families make with the airport not being a major airline hub – we're all too familiar with making connections in Dallas after a short flight north – while saying wait times have shrunk by about five minutes over last year.
"We hear it all the time that our airport is fast and easy to fly in and out of," Jesus Saenz, director of airports in San Antonio, is quoted as saying in a statement. "So much of that is because of the collaboration we see from our security, police force and, of course, our canine teams, too."
On average, Bounce says, San Antonio travelers wait just under 18 minutes between passport control and TSA—a mark bested only by Baltimore/Washington International, where travelers wait about three minutes less. The Alamo City was the only Texas city represented on the list:
- Baltimore/Washington International: Average wait time of 14:48
- San Antonio International: 17:42
- San Jose International: 18:18
- Newark Liberty International: 18:30
- Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International: 18:30
- Sacramento International: 19:36
- Raleigh-Durham International: 19:48
- Harsfield-Jackson Atlanta International: 19:54
- Phoenix Sky Harbor International: 20:06
- Denver International: 20:42
Meanwhile, if long lines are your pet peeve, you might want to stay away from New York, San Francisco and Miami, where Bounce says travelers tend to wait upwards of 45 minutes in line.
No other Texas facility appeared on either ranking of the longest or shortest airport wait times.
