Next 48 hours brings 20-degree drop in temperatures and wind concern for south Texas

SAN ANTONIO — This weekend a cold front will bring a 20-degree drop in high temperatures and high winds for San Antonio over the next 48 hours. 

After afternoon temperatures in the mid 70s, changes begin overnight Friday into Saturday morning as the cold front arrives. 

Here's what you can expect Saturday:

Temperatures - The big change will be felt in afternoon high temperatures only reaching the mid 50s. The cold front will bring extremely dry air allowing overnight temperatures to drop into the low 40s. Hill Country could see freezing temperatures overnight. 

Winds - Saturday morning winds could reach 45 mph wind gusts with a constant wind speed of 20 mph. This combination of high winds and dry air resulted in a Fire Weather Watch for areas near Bexar County, according to the National Weather Service. 

Pleasanton, Hondo and Pearsall are all included in the watch.

Residents across all south central Texas are urged to avoid activities that could cause a wildfire. 

By Sunday winds will finally taper off but high temperatures stay chilly in the 50s. Next week's temperatures will warm up to the upper 60s. 

For areas of the southeast including northern parts of Alabama and Mississippi is looking at possible snow by Sunday evening.
