A 10 percent chance of light shower activity is expected to continue in San Antonio through Tuesday afternoon.

SAN ANTONIO — There have been several reports of sleet and graupel mixing in with light rain around the San Antonio area Tuesday.

Since surface temperatures are well above freezing in San Antonio no impacts or accumulations are expected.

A 10 percent chance of light shower activity is expected to continue in San Antonio through Tuesday afternoon.

Here's how you can tell the difference between different types of winter precipitation:

Sleet - Ice particles forming from the freezing of liquid water droplets. For instance, these droplets fall as rain and freeze as they reach colder temperatures, then fall to the ground in the shape of small frozen ice pellets. This form of precipitation also looks clear in color since it's made of ice.

Graupel - Soft ice pellets forming when water droplets reach temperatures below 32 degrees and freeze onto a snow crystal. This form of precipitation is more milky white in color. It can also be known as soft hail since can easily fall apart when handled.

Snowflakes - Fall when there is extremely cold water droplets that freeze onto a a piece of dust or even pollen creating an ice crystal. As the crystal continues to fall through the atmosphere water vapor freezes onto the original crystal building new crystals, forming a six-sided snowflake.
