Did recent rain improve drought conditions for Bexar County? Not really.

Where rain was needed most remained dry from Monday's storms allowing drought conditions to worsen in Bexar County.

SAN ANTONIO — The combination of a dry line and cold front brought thunderstorm activity to San Antonio and parts of Bexar County on Monday. 

Unfortunately, this thin line of thunderstorms was unable to cover enough area to provide any major relief to drought conditions. In fact, drought conditions continue to worsen in Bexar County. 

Estimated rainfall amounts varied from 0.5 to over an inch of rain only in the southeastern parts of Bexar County from Monday's storms. Whereas, in Guadalupe County estimated totals produced over 3 inches of rain.

The areas where rain was needed most in Bexar County remained dry Monday allowing drought conditions to rise from Severe to Extreme Drought in parts of Bexar County, which is number 4 out of 5 stages on the U.S. Drought Monitor. .

The map released Thursday by the U.S. Drought Monitor shows a majority of Bexar County in Severe Drought and a small strip to the far west of Bexar County now classified as Extreme Drought.

San Antonio will continue to see dry conditions for the next five days due to building high pressure, allowing afternoon temperatures to rise to near 90 degrees on Saturday. 

The next chance of rain for San Antonio will be next Tuesday night as another dry line and Pacific cold front pushes through our area bringing possible showers and thunderstorm activity.
