Salvation Army San Antonio providing aid to those impacted by Beryl

Five volunteers and two trucks from Salvation Army San Antonio are in Wharton, Texas.

SAN ANTONIO — Two trucks and five volunteers from the San Antonio Salvation Army are in Wharton, Texas ready to help people affected by Beryl.

One truck will help provide warm food while another will carve a path for the volunteers to provide aid, clearing debris from the road.

The Salvation Army is one of those 39 agencies the governor cited. Brad Mayhar, spokesperson for Salvation Army San Antonio, said a command center has been set-up in Wharton.

“We can prepare warm meals on the spot and we’re able to serve hundreds of meals at a time,” Mayhar said.

Joshua Robinett the area commander for the San Antonio Salvation Army said there's a chance their team could spend close to two weeks helping areas affected by disaster.

Where they go depends on what areas are impacted the worst.

What Robinett said they do need is support from people around the community. The best support would come in the form of financial donations.

“We spend those dollars in those local communities so it kind of helps lift those local businesses as well," Robinett said.
