Could it rain Halloween night in San Antonio?

The Alamo City hadn't seen measurable rain in almost two months. Then Tuesday arrived.

SAN ANTONIO — What was initially shaping up to be a soggy Halloween evening in San Antonio is now looking a bit drier than expected as blue Thursday afternoon skies give way to partly cloudy conditions with low chances of rain around 5 p.m., when the earliest trick-or-treaters hit the sidewalks.

Tuesday did bring San Antonio's first measurable rain in nearly two months, although at 0.01 inches, you'd be forgiven if you didn't notice it. Halloween evening could avoid precipitation in your neighborhood, but be on guard, parents: You might want to bring along the umbrella just in case.

Low rain chances will stick around for the weekend as we welcome November.

September 5 had been the last time the Alamo City received more than a trace of precipitation, according to the National Weather Service, and not since Sept. 3 – when streets flooded and the zoo shut down – has the city gotten more than 0.05 inches.

San Antonio has had soggy Halloweens in the last decade, most recently when 0.95 inches fell in 2018, according to NWS data. And Halloween in 2014 and 2015 saw a combined 2.55 inches of rain drenching the scariest night of the year. Meanwhile, most days this week have seen afternoon highs right around 90, much warmer than this month's average historical high of 82.2 degrees.

Here's a look at your updated forecast for Halloween and beyond.

Thursday (Halloween): High of 87, overnight low of 68. Halloween night brings low rain chances that dwindle to 20%  after 1 a.m. There's still a chance that trick-or-treating hours could be damp, but expect it to be warm late, with temps still in the low-70s at 10 p.m. Wind gust top out at 10 mph overnight.

Friday: High of 84, low of 71. The end of the week brings a 20% chance of rain in the afternoon, along with 10 mph wind gusts.

Saturday: High of 86, low of 72. A 30% chance of showers and may some thunderstorm activity kicks off the weekend.

Sunday: High of 87, low of 72. More showers are possible as we finish out the weekend.

Don't forget to turn your clocks back!

Meanwhile, daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, which means we'll get another glorious hour of sleep.

It also means Saturday will be the last time we'll enjoy a 6 p.m. sunset as mornings get brighter but evenings darker. Sunset on Saturday will be at 6:46 p.m., while Sunday's sunset will happen at 5:45 p.m.
