SAN ANTONIO — Get ready San Antonio because 2023 is almost here and bringing perfect weather to ring in the New Year. Dress in layers if you plan to be out the entire day because afternoon temperatures will be warm, more than 10 degrees above average, but then drop enough to wear a light jacket by midnight.
Weather changes are also in store after New Year's Eve as a couple of cooler air masses will drop high temperatures back to normal putting an end to this warming trend.
Here's what you can expect the next 7 days:
New Year's Eve (High 76 and Low: 48): Due to mostly clear skies and a warm southwesterly wind temperatures will rise to the upper-70s by Saturday afternoon. Winds will also be gusty near 20 mph.
These winds in combination with dry air will keep temperatures quite comfortable during a spring-like afternoon. Overall, Saturday afternoon will be a beautiful day!
New Year's Eve will also be the start of a warming trend but drop 20 degrees by midnight so prepare for a chilly night by midnight. Pack a light jacket.
Hour-by-hour forecast:
New Year's Day (High 77 and Low 53): Overnight humidity will increase throughout the Sunday but start off chilly in the 50s. The warming trend will continue for the first day of January until a Pacific front rolls through.
Monday (High 79 and Low 64): No need for a jacket or even long sleeves. San Antonio will experience a high temperature near 80 degrees, that's near 20-degrees above average. The entire day will feel humid with a 30 percent chance of showers by the afternoon as a front pushes through our area.
Tuesday (High 71 and Low 52): Weather changes will begin as wind shifts more northerly and dry air begins to filter in. This will help drop morning low temperatures back in the 50s and high temperatures in the low 70s. Afternoons will be very pleasant with plenty of sunshine.
Wednesday - Friday: Cooler weather returns! Temperatures will continue to drop on Wednesday into Thursday as another cold air mass pushes into San Antonio. This will bounce temperatures closer to average with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the mid- 40s.
Rain chances: With the exception of Monday the next seven days look rain-free. This wraps up 2022 ranked as the second driest year on record with San Antonio only picking up near 11.51 inches of rainfall. This is around 20 inches below average.
