SAN ANTONIO — Multiple brush fires broken out Tuesday afternoon amid a heightened fire danger in south Texas due to high winds and dry conditions.
A large fire started around noon Tuesday and was responsible for burning about 1,000 acres, Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward said.
It was located about 12 miles from Jourdanton along FB 3387 and Highway 16. The fires was not yet contained as of 6 p.m. Tuesday. As many as 25 fire units were battling the spread of flames across mostly uninhabited rural land.
The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for fire danger in many counties Tuesday afternoon, including Bexar County, but that warning did not extend to Atascosa County.
