CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Beryl is expected to make landfall on the Texas coast early Monday morning as at least a strong Category 1 hurricane.

The storm caused at least 11 deaths as it passed through the Caribbean last week, according to the Associated Press. It was the earliest storm to develop into a Category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic.

Schools, universities and other businesses have already announced closures ahead of Beryl's expected impact.
