SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio experienced extensive damage Thursday as storms blasted into the area, carving a path of destruction.
The first wave of severe storms blew through the San Antonio area Thursday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. causing damage and power outages throughout the city. A second round hit the city just before 7 p.m., before exiting east.
As of 10:40 p.m., more than 48,000 people were without power, one man was dead, and at least one person was injured.
But the region was given the all-clear from storms.
One woman was left in total shock after a piece of sheet metal ripped off of a building and throttled into the back of her car, ripping a giant hole into the back of the vehicle.
Thursday's storms brought some small hail and major wind gusts to the Bexar County area, as well as damage.
On the east side, neighborhoods were caught off-guard by the storms as high wind gusts picked up chunks of metal and hurled them around neighborhoods.
Elsewhere in town, an Airbnb that a family was renting while vacationing in San Antonio was set ablaze by a lightning strike. Thankfully, no one was injured.
By Thursday night the winds had calmed and the storms had left.
Heat and humidity will be the weather story through the weekend when we're expected to see our first 100-degree day Saturday, and an even hotter Sunday. Heat index values will range from 102-110 degrees over the weekend.
