Temperatures to plummet over next 48 hours as cold front blows through San Antonio. Here's what to expect.

The next 48 hours will bring shower activity and drop temperatures near 30 degrees below average for this time of year.

SAN ANTONIO — Don't pack those sweaters away San Antonians, because a cold front is on our doorstep with a huge temperature swing headed our way this evening. The next 48 hours will bring shower activity and drop temperatures near 30 degrees below average for this time of year. 

Here's what you can expect the next 48 hours:

Wednesday (High 59 and Low 38): San Antonio will hit the high temperature in the upper 50s early morning. Temperatures will drop throughout the afternoon. Temperatures will be in the mid 40s by 4:00 p.m. and close to freezing in the Hill Country. Scattered showers are also expected.

Winds will be gusty around 25 mph and continue through Thursday. 

Thursday (High 38 and Low 34): By midnight temperatures will be cold enough to possibly produce sleet in the Hill Country but San Antonio should stay above freezing to keep precipitation as light rain. Ice accumulation is currently not a big concern. However, the day will be very cold, staying in the 30s all day in San Antonio. Overnight Thursday, rainfall will continue through Friday morning. 

The dreary weather will continue with shower activity and cold temperatures in the 40s through Saturday. The sun returns Sunday and temperatures warm-up into the 60s for next week.
