SAN ANTONIO — The National Weather Service is forecasting the coldest weather of the winter season to arrive in San Antonio during the weekend. The city and Bexar County are getting ready by preparing warming centers for residents in need of heated shelter.
Starting on Monday, the City of San Antonio will open 14 locations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for residents to stay warm and safe during the incoming arctic blast. People who come to these facilities are asked to bring clothes, supplies and medicine during their stay.
Daytime Warming Centers

The city said passengers using the VIA or VIA Link bus services should let the bus operator know where they are going and why as they board, and VIAtrans passengers should alert the reservation agent when booking their trip.
Six other city-operated facilities will be available as "overnight resiliency centers" starting at 9 p.m. Sunday. Here, residents can stay warm as needed through 8 a.m. Wednesday.
"These locations are safe, accessible, and equitable facilities where residents can obtain information and resources in times of need. These locations will have access to basic needs/supplies, shelter from the severe cold, access to power & device charging and free wi-fi," said the City of San Antonio in a release. "Kennels will be available in a separate area of these locations for pets."
People who come to these facilities are asked to still bring basic supplies like clothes and medicine.

Bexar County said they will also open five of their own overnight warming centers starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday and will keep them open through 8 a.m. Wednesday.
