Whippet and Heeler mix named Laila has never had her very own family | Forgotten Friends

She was found with her siblings on Quintana Road over four years ago when she was about three months old and has been with God's Dogs ever since.

VON ORMY, Texas — Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week, we went to God's Dogs Rescue in Von Ormy to meet Laila, a Whippet and American Blue Heeler mix that's a little over four-years-old who has never had a family of her very own. She was found with her siblings on Quintana Road over four years ago when she was about three months old and has been with God's Dogs ever since. All of her siblings found homes but sadly, Laila is still waiting on her forever family.

She spent several years at the shelter but is now in a foster home while she waits for someone special to choose her to add to their family.

Laila is a sweet and loving girl that loves to smile. She is good with kids and will even jump on a trampoline with them. It would probably best if the kids were older, not toddlers.

God's Dogs says she is smart and has even learned a few tricks that she will happily show you when you meet her. She is housebroken, crate-trained and does really well on a leash. In fact, she's always ready for her next big adventure outside.

"Blue Heelers are highly intelligent and learn quickly," according to the American Kennel Club.

She gets along well with other dogs but we are not sure about cats.

"Between bursts of intense pursuit, Whippets love to stretch out and relax for long hours, enjoying the role of a loving, and loved, companion," according to the American Kennel Club. "And another plus, Whippets rarely bark."

"Laila wants to be a part of a family who will cherish her silly ways for the rest of her life," said shelter staff.

Laila is healthy, current on all her vaccinations, microchipped and has already been spayed.

Do you want to give Laila a chance to join your family?

For whoever adopts Laila, Lucy's Doggy Daycare & Spa will be lending a paw by offering them a free "Glow Up" Day at the Spa, which includes a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. One of Lucy's most cherished core values is to continue Lucy’s legacy of giving back to pups in need, as Lucy herself was a rescue!

You can fill out an application with God's Dogs online CLICK HERE. God's Dogs requires all pets that are adopted from them remain indoor animals, stay current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention.

The adoption fee is $200 within the state of Texas. That fee would include transportation to your area. Laila is not available to be adopted out of state because she needs to meet her adopters first.

They are located in Von Ormy, where they have five fenced acres for the dogs to run and play, and huge enclosures for exercise and rehabilitation. All rescue dogs are socialized with other animals and other people, coming and going in a healthy country environment.

If you email or contact them on a Sunday, they will get back to you on the following Monday.

Would you like to help God's Dogs but aren't quite ready to adopt?

They always need fosters and volunteers, and they have opportunities for both short-term and long-term. Foster families are supplied with the bedding, crates, food, and vetting that the puppy or dog will need. all you have to do is supply the love and guidance that is so desperately needed.

You can fill out an application by CLICKING HERE.
