SAN ANTONIO — The Children's Nutcracker is returning to the Alamo City with two performances in December.

The Children's Ballet of San Antonio is marking its 10th anniversary production of The Children's Nutcracker with performances on Friday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. at The Lila Cockrell Theatre located on 200 E. Market Street.

The 90-minute show is a family-friendly adaption of the classic holiday story that's been around for more than 100 years, according to CBSA.

The Children's Nutcracker follows Clara at the Von Stahlbaum home through a holiday journey where mouse kings and sugar plum dreams come to life with costumes, elaborate dances and handmade design sets.

The CBSA allows rising stars to share the stage with international principal dancers while also gaining professional experience at a young age. International ballet masters, principal artists and experts Aliaksandra Krukava and Nurlan Kinerbayev will return to the CBSA to offer their expertise on the choreography and staging of the show. They will also dance the principal roles during the Dec. 13 performance.

Guests can find the 2,300 seat-venue located in the downtown area near the Tower of the Americas right alongside the San Antonio Riverwalk. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for the opportunity to browse a pre-show holiday market in the lobby, take photos with Santa or costumed cast members like the Sugar Plum Fairy and enjoy treats from Kingdom of Sweets along with some hot cocoa.

Auditions for The Children's Nutcracker was held earlier this fall and drew in hundreds of applicants from regional areas.
